Wasshoi - Authentic Japanese Street Food

Writer: Sunshine LocalsSunshine Locals

Sunshine Locals have waited tirelessly for quality Japanese food in the area that isn't just sushi, so when Wasshoi first opened early 2020 we were super excited (see our first post about them here). But of course, once Covid lockdowns happened these guys had to make the difficult decision to temporarily shut shop, little did they realise it would be for over 8 months.

During this time they were able to take on board community feedback and with that, have expanded their menu and now include vegetarian options and bite-sized offerings too.

See their new menu below:

What we were most excited about was the Ramen made right in store - a broth somewhere in between Tonkotsu and Shoyu with a little kick of spice which keeps you coming back for more.

Of course there are also their famous Don rice bowls (served with Kimchi & lettuce) and rolls with the option of Beef Brisket (melt in your melt, to die for!), Pork Belly (huge serving!), Chicken fillet, Prawn Tempura or Vegetarian patty (jam packed full of flavour).

We couldn't go past their Chicken Karaage (fried chicken bites) with their secret seasoning making it unlike any other we have tasted. The prawn tempura was also delightful - perfectly crisp with just the right amount of bite. And who could forget the modest miso soup which they have somehow elevated into something worth ordering in a larger bowl!

Come and support this wonderful small business!

They also have a Port Melbourne store at 285 Bay Street (next to Capricho Grill)
