Here at Sunshine Locals, two of our biggest values are community and sustainability, and this cafe ticks both those boxes.
Hidden amongst the streets of Ardeer is this little cafe run by a young local family, Wayne, Dea and their gorgeous girl Penelope. They wanted to offer a relaxed place which served healthy drinks and snacks for locals whilst still considering the environment. They've done that by purchasing most of the fittings and furniture second-hand, buying produce in bulk and also on-selling those bulk foods to customers, reusing or recycling disposable containers and ensuring that their coffee cups are not plastic lined and their plastic disposables are plant based, ensuring they are compostable.
They are also proud to offer cold pressed juices and slushies (Espresso Coffee, Raw Chocolate, fresh Orange Slushy, Watermelon Apple Beetroot or Pineapple & supergreens plus seasonal specials) all made from fruit and veggies (purchased locally) with NO artificial additives. Their homemade protein balls are TO DIE FOR and the grilled toasties (cheese & tomato, cheesy bean, spinach & marinated feta, smokey pulled BBQ jackfruit & cheese), pulp feta toasties (YAY! Feta with varieties of vegetable pulp), vegan pies (Creamy mushroom & peppersteak) and baked potato (cheesy bean, just cheese, smokey pulled BBQ jackfruit and cheese) are perfect snacks for any given day. They've also been experimenting with their cold pressed juices and have come up with a Beetroot & Ginger latte, a must try!
Now we also have to mention the huge yard at the back which opens up on sunny days with plenty of play equipment to keep the kids occupied. It's also been host to the community Halloween party (with an excess of 40 kids attending), markets and exercise classes in the past.
